Prequel 2015 catalogs are available for sale here. They were beautifully designed by Prequel 2015 artists Genevieve Goffman, Travis Beardsley, and Dakota Gearhart.
Prequel is a juried artist incubator open to all visual artists that runs in the summer and fall at no cost to its selected artists. The program is concerned with the structuring and support of local artists’ formative post-graduation years, providing emerging artists a supportive environment to make and critique new work while also engaging with arts professionals to develop and hone artist and professional development skills. Prequel’s main objective is to create a structure of support and sense of community amongst regional emerging artists and with the broad reach of artists and organizations with whom these selected artists collaborate during the program.
The name Prequel alludes to the point that each participant will have already made a substantial amount of work prior to the program and will build on this work throughout the program. Prequel meets primarily on Monday evenings at Sum Gallery (2821 NE MLK Blvd.) and consists of weekly critiques and guest speakers that encourage emerging artists to engage in critical conversation together, strengthening their work and addressing the viability of pursuing a career and life of an artist today. In addition to our weekly discussions, each artist is paired with a mentor for continued growth and conversation.
Prequel culminates with a group exhibition and artist talks open to the public in the fall, along with a collaboratively designed catalog.
